Appeal for witnesses after attempted theft of copper wire

Police are appealing for witnesses after reckless thieves attempted to steal copper wiring.

The incident happened at around 6pm on June 7 at the Westfield Electrical substation in Ballingry.

The attempted theft resulted in a power failure and police are now trying to trace those responsibl­e.

Inspector Gavin Cameron said: “This incident was a reckless act of stupidity that not only resulted in a power outage, but could have put the suspects and other members of the public at risk of serious injury.

“Anyone who remembers seeing any suspicious activity around the substation on Thursday evening should contact police immediatel­y.”
