Guard of honour

-

“As soon as I saw the photograph of the Queen Mother, I recognised it,” emails Wilma Reid of Carnoustie, “as there is a family member amongst the soldiers.

“My mother’s cousin, William Ritchie, is the third soldier on the left and the occasion, confirmed by Mr Ritchie’s daughter Brenda Sparkes, dates back to 1956. The Queen Mother visited Forfar, to receive the Freedom of the town and, as Colonel-in-Chief of the Black Watch, inspected the guard of honour made up of men from the 4th and 5th Battalions of the regiment.

“There is an extract from Movietone News and Pathe News on YouTube showing her visit which is worth a look.”
