Ballantyne spurns Doonhamers
Former Dundee United full back Cammy Ballantyne, who shone for Montrose when they won League 2 last season, has turned down the chance of a full time deal at Queen of the South to join Dumbarton.
The 21-year-old who made three appearances for the Tannadice men was invited to join the Championship Doonhamers for a pre-season trial period after impressing manager Gary Naysmith during a Scottish Cup tie with the Gable Endies last season.
However Sons boss Stephen Aitken has offered a deal without any trial conditions and Ballantyne has agreed.
Aitken said: “Cammy could have gone to QOS and seen what happened but he wanted his future settled. He will play a lot of football here and that will stand him in good stead for the rest of his career.”
