Anyone waddling around Courier Country over the last few days cannot have failed to notice a range of new avian attractions.

Yes, after months of planning, the penguins are finally on parade.

The flamboyant five-footers have been decorated by a host of artists and designers – and are now available for public inspection.

And if you failed to p-p-pick up Monday’s Courier, which included a free copy of the Maggie’s Penguin Parade map, don’t get your flippers in a flap, just turn to page 30 today.

The guide shows just where you can find every one of the 80 penguins which have been manoeuvred into position across Tayside and Fife.

Many locals have already been out taking photographs of the penguins after they began to arrive in an array of locations, including atop Dundee Law, at Stobsmuir Ponds, in Monifieth, Kirriemuir, Perth city centre, Broughty Ferry, St Andrews...

From golfers to comic book characters, pilots to footballers, each penguin showcases a one-off design inspired by everything from the history of Dundee to climate change concerns. A sticker book and smartphone app have been created to help with their discovery, rewarding users with facts about each of the designs.

And each of the beautiful birds has its own special story to tell as they combine to raise vital funds for Maggie’s Dundee.

There is plenty of time to meet every member of the captivating colony ahead of a grand farewell event in Slessor Gardens, Dundee, on September 22 and 23 before an auction on September 24.

Maggie’s Dundee Centre fundraising manager Annie Long said: “It’s wonderful to have our penguins in place and ready to be enjoyed by people from across the Dundee area and beyond.

“Maggie’s relies almost entirely on voluntary donations to support people to live well with cancer – and while I know our penguins will raise a tremendous amount for Maggie’s Dundee, what’s so lovely is that the whole project has echoed the warmth and togetherness of a Maggie’s Centre.”

Famous faces including Judy Murray, Simple Minds and Lorraine Kelly have been involved in designing or sponsoring a penguin and illustrator Lindsey Gardiner was inspired to paint her penguin in a style inspired by her yoga instructor friend Fi Munro, from Perthshire, who is supported by Maggie’s Dundee.

Who will be the first to tick off all the penguins on the list?

Let the fun begin...
