Keep cup faith with Limato

Candy’s stable star looks good value for success

- by The Ferret

LIMATO looks the value call as he bids to regain his crown in a wide-open renewal of the Darley July Cup at Newmarket.

Henry Candy’s stable star was a brilliant winner of the six-furlong Group One in 2016 and ran arguably just as well in last year’s renewal, finishing an excellent when conceding weight to the three-year-old Harry Angel. QUORTO made a big impression on his Newmarket debut three weeks ago and gets the nod in the bet365 Superlative Stakes.

HONOURABLE GENT is after more Perth success in the feature race at the Scone track’s big family race day tomorrow.

A winner over course and distance last month, Rose Dobbin’s Northumberland raider faces five rivals in the Mackie’s Summer Sundaes Handicap Chase.

Under Craig Nichol, he scored by a neck and has gone up just 3lb – he was also part of a first-ever treble for his trainer.

Among the opposition to Honourable Gent is Sandy Thomsontrained King’s Wharf who was fourth at Perth in hurdling company earlier this month.

Top-weight is Okotoks on just his third starts over fences. Trained by Fergal O’Brien and ridden by Paddy Brennan, he made amends for a hiccup on chasing debut by impressing at Hexham last time.

The opening novices’ hurdle sees a rare Richard Fahey runner in the shape of Judge Earle partnered by leading course jockey Brian Hughes.

JUDGE EARLE trotted up in maiden company at Britain’s most northerly outpost last time.
