A charity football match has been held in memory of tragic Fife biker Zak Watson on the second anniversary of his death.

Dozens of friends and family gathered in Halbeath on Saturday to pay tribute to the popular 31-year-old from Crossgates.

Football figures including former Cowdenbeath player Craig Winter took part in the Halbeath Legends vs the Crossgates Old School clash, which ended 5-4 to the Legends.

Before kick-off, players from both teams gathered to perform a minute’s applause in memory of their friend while his family released blue balloons from the middle of the pitch.

Mr Watson’s mum Carolyn paid tribute to him and said the match attendance showed people had not forgotten her son.

The 56-year-old said: “It’s just great to see that everyone still remembers Zak and they won’t forget him.

“He was an absolute living legend, just totally amazing. We’ve raised over £8,000 through fundraising events in his memory and that money goes towards local causes such as the Crossgates Greenfingers Group.

“We’ve also helped one of his friends who lost his leg, so the money went towards adapting his motorbike.

“We did the fundraising in the first year to try to take our minds off losing him. Our next event will probably be in March because that’s when his birthday is.Carolyn added: “Life was going so well

“We want the money to go towards causes in the Halbeath and surrounding areas because that’s what Zak would have wanted.” for him before he died. He’d just set up a new business with his friend and he had just been made president of the Blue Angels club.

“Him and Michelle had just bought their first house together and they got married in the April before his accident in July.”

Michelle, 35, who came to the match with their daughter Kelli, 19, said: “I didn’t expect to get a turnout like this, it’s just unbelievable.”
