Pupils experience life in higher education from college campus
Fife College has helped pupils from across Courier Country rise to the challenge.
Organised by local organisation Lift Off, 63 students from 12 high schools across Fife and Tayside participated as part of a week-long Lift Off 2 Success residential course.
The pupils, from six Fife high schools, four Dundee and two Angus schools, were selected for a place on the programme because they have displayed potential and aptitude and want to go on to higher education.
Lift Off’s aim is to help prepare them. Its development worker Dylan Edmonds said the programme was a fantastic experience for new fifth year pupils.
“They stay at university halls for the five days, but get the opportunity to visit a different higher education institution each day, including Fife College.
“We believe that the best way to let young people explore HE, be that college or university, is to get them out and experiencing the campuses for themselves.
“It’s always great to visit Fife College with the pupils – we’re actually based here at the Stenton campus, so we know how great a place it is to study.”
Split into three parts, the day was designed to give pupils an introduction to the college and show them what studying at HE level is like as well as giving them a chance to see the facilities, technology and courses on offer.
Lynne Ralph, head of developing the young workforce at the college, said: “The young people thoroughly embraced the opportunity to explore life at the college and the ways in which they can learn.
“It was a pleasure hearing their ideas for the future.”
