DAN SCOTTOW SUPERFAN

-

So... here we go again! Ten years after the release of Mamma Mia, we have the release of the sequel/prequel.

Having been an Abba fan my whole life, to say I was excited to go to the Swedish premiere in Stockholm last week would be the understatement of the century.

For me, nothing can beat the news that the band are to release new music later on this year and, hoping to catch a glimpse of them, I happily went along to strut my stuff on the blue carpet.

I did in fact see the boys from Abba, and spoke to Bjorn, but the girls were not present, which was a little disappointing.

If you’re a fan of the first film (I have to admit, I don’t love the film, but I do love the music) then you won’t be disappointed by this follow-up.

It’s basically more of the same.

Having used up most of Abba’s more well known songs in the first film, this instalment includes a couple of reprises from the first, along with some more obscure tracks, that any non-Abba fans might not have heard before.

It includes some subtle lyric changes by Bjorn himself, to make them slot nicely into the ‘story’ (if you can even call it that).

With Cameo roles from both Benny and Bjorn, and a brief but memorable performance from the legend that is Cher, it’s a camp, Abba-filled romp, with some tear inducing moments for the more emotional viewers, along with laughs aplenty.

You can’t help but tap your feet and sometimes even sing along.

It’s not the best film in the world, by any stretch of the imagination, but it is possibly one of the best soundtracks.
