McCann urges Moussa to stay in danger zone
Dundee boss Neil McCann has urged Sofien Moussa to make his presence felt inside the box more this season as he seeks a bigger goal threat.
The Tunisian netted a double at the weekend as the Dark Blues kicked off the competitive action with an impressive 4-0 win over Stirling Albion in the Betfred Cup.
The 30-year-old also produced a horror miss from barely six yards but went on to trigger a comfortable opening-day victory with a stunning volley and a second half header.
The former Tromso marksman scored 12 times last term but four of his seven Premiership goals came from the spot, and he had to wait until April for his first top flight goal from open play.
McCann believes Moussa can provide more of an attacking spark if he concentrates more of his energy closer to goal.
But, with summer signing Jean Mendy grabbing a debut goal and Craig Wighton scoring for the first time in 17 months after knee trouble, McCann is happy with the way his side’s forwards are shaping up.
He said: “Sometimes Moussa’s a wee bit guilty of pulling out into areas where it becomes difficult to score.
“I want him between the posts because you can see how much of a physical presence he is.
“I thought him and Mendy looked a good partnership and Craig Wighton was excellent.
“I’m delighted for Craig.
“I know he went away with Scotland under-21s but he looked really fit in pre-season and you can see the quality he has.
“I had a wee go at him at half-time because, for me, he was sitting on it, and I don’t like people resting on ability like that.
“But I thought in the second half he was much more of a threat.”
