Considering the recent blistering conditions,

LINTRATHEN LOCH

has defeated the trend and is fishing really well,

writes our angling correspondent.

Despite the water levels being low for the time of the year the reservoir’s extreme depths and mixing action of Scottish Water’s aerators has helped to keep the water temperatures acceptable to the trout.

Monifieth Trout AC had four boats and landed 29 fish for 57lb on Saturday.

C Elder won the competition with four for 8lb 8oz. Some of the anglers were making their four fish limit within 90 minutes.

Otherwise S Ferrier and M Ferrier on a day session had their eight fish for 19lb 8oz, Ian Runcie with guest N Robertson on an evening session had 20 fish on a C/R outing and D Lennon with J Jeffrey and D Jeffrey had 10 coming in at 20lb 8oz.

Despite the extremely hot, dry weather there have still been some excellent returns on the ponds at FORBES OF KINGENNIE.

The Boathouse has definitely been the place to go as the fresh incoming water helps to keep oxygen levels higher and water temperatures lower.

The surrounding trees provide extra shade and the fish have responded well to carefully presented flies. Ian Barlow produced a superb performance to return 30 fish taken mainly on buzzers.

Most catches were rainbows but there were also some fine blue trout and the occasional nice brown trout.

Black or olive buzzers, diawl bachs and damsel variations were the preferred patterns.

The Burnside Pool has been somewhat erratic – very difficult on some days and reasonably productive on others.

At LAKE OF MENTEITH 15 pairs of anglers competed in the Menteith heat of the Scierra Pairs competition on Sunday.

Top pair were Andy Lennox and Greg Forrest. Their eight fish and time bonus amounted to 26lb 8oz. Second were Gus Armour and Tosh Storrar, while Tom Leslie and Bruce Chisholm were third.

Heaviest fish was 3lb 12oz and was caught by Colin McGlone and Jim Baxter.

The Maggie’s event at RESCOBIE LOCH was a great success on Sunday with 12 boats going out.

First was Gordon Armstrong with four for 18lb and second was John Henderson with four for 17lb 6oz. George Irvine was third with four for 17lb 4oz with Tim Hale in fourth with four for 12lb.

The heaviest fish of the day title was shared by Graeme Dunbar and Peter Greig, who both brought in rainbows of 6lb.

There was a total of 50 fish for 164lb landed.

So far approximately £2,280 has been raised, with the final total to be announced soon.

Visiting clubs included Brechin AC who brought in 18 rainbows and one brownie for a total of 54lb and Anstruther AC, whose members went out with 14 rods and returned 16 for 51lb.

The best catch of the week was taken by Derek Nicoll who landed a rainbow of 6lb 4oz while fishing off the bank at Greenbank.
