Honda is expanding its Civic range.

The hatchback and estate models will be joined by a four-door saloon model costing from £19,395.

It will be available with either a 1.6litre diesel or a one-litre turbo petrol. The diesel will do up to 83.1mpg and emit 91g/km CO2 with a six-speed manual and the automatic version can do 68.9mpg and 108g/km CO2.

The petrol averages a similarly impressive 58.9mpg and picking the CVT auto actually takes this up further, to over 60mpg.

As you would expect the diesel model costs more, with prices for that version starting at £20,745.

Three trim levels have been made available for the car – SE, SR and EX.

All models come with a suite of safety features, including collision mitigation braking system, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control and traffic sign recognition.

SR grade costs a little under £1,000 extra and adds rain sensing auto wipers, dual climate control air conditioning, parking sensors, Honda Connect (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) and a rear parking camera.

EX trim carries a steep £2,860 premium but includes more luxury features such as leather seats, smart entry and start, LED headlights, wireless phone charging and heated rear seats.

While the British buying public tends to favour hatchbacks over saloons, Honda is hoping the four-door Civic will appeal to traditional, older buyers trading up from the company’s Jazz.

Phil Webb, Honda UK head of cars, said: “The arrival of the four door variant now completes the line-up for the Civic family in the UK.”
