Free meals and clothing grants

Applicatio­ns for free school meals and clothing grants for the school year 2018-19 in Fife are now open.

Fife Council will provide a school clothing grant for £100 per child for those on low incomes. The children will also be provided with free school meals throughout the year.

To qualify, the applicant has to be in receipt of one of several qualifying benefits. Those are income support job seekers allowance; employment and support allowance; child tax credit with an annual income below £16,105; child tax credit and working tax credit with an annual income below £6,420; support under part four of the immigratio­n and asylum act 1999; and universal credit, including those with a take home pay of up to £610 per month.

Those on long-term incapacity benefit, receiving a widows allowance if not in full time employment and receiving child tax credit and working tax credit will receive a school clothing grant only.

If you do not meet this criteria, but your child is in primary one to three, they can still receive free school meals.

Free school milk will only be given if one of the other criteria’s is also met.

Applicatio­ns can be made online via fifedirect.co.uk, although anyone without access to a PC or mobile device can use self service PCs at local offices, internet cafes or a friend or relative’s PC or mobile device with internet.
