Bridge of love as airman Corrie’s brother finds joy in wake of loss
Makeyan pops question on walk over Forth crossing
The brother of missing Fife airman Corrie McKeague has proposed to his girlfriend during a romantic walk over the Forth Road Bridge.
Makeyan, 27, asked his partner Cloë Rawlinson to be his wife on July 17 before presenting her with a sparkling engagement ring after she said yes.
The Dunfermline couple made the announcement just days before Corrie’s other sibling, Darroch, 22, got married to his fiancée Leah McElrea on Sunday.
The youngest sibling and his new wife met and fell in love while handing out flyers in Bury St Edmunds during the hunt for answers about Corrie’s whereabouts.
Miss Rawlinson, 25, shared her and Makeyan’s happy news on the Find Corrie Facebook page, prompting an outpouring of well wishes.
She said: “I’ve never posted on this but before we share our news, I want to thank each and every one of you for the support you have given to Makeyan and his family.
“From day one you touched us all with how much you care.
“Corrie means so much to us all and it’s very touching that he means something to you too. Makeyan asked me last week to become his wife and I instantly said yes.
“He has been through the hardest times and I’ve been so proud to be able to hold his hand through them all and I will continue to do so always.
“It’s difficult not have Corrie here sharing these moments with us, as he would always ask Makeyan why he hadn’t asked me yet.
“However I hope he knows wherever he is, that his big brother will always be loved.”
The latest announcement will provide welcome comfort to the McKeague family after almost two years of uncertainty following Corrie’s disappearance.
The RAF gunner, who was just 23 when he vanished, went missing following a night out in Suffolk on September 24 2016.
No trace of him has ever been found, despite an extensive search of a landfill site in Cambridge following fears he had fallen asleep in a bin and been transported there.
Corrie became a father on Father’s Day last year after his girlfriend April Oliver gave birth to Ellie-Louise.
The couple did not know she was pregnant before Corrie vanished but the little girl, who is now one year old, is said to be just like her dad.
