Dundee Stars have signed Canadian forward Matt Marquardt.

The former Sheffield Steelers’ star’s arrival on Tayside – the club’s 13th summer signing – has been welcomed by Stars general manager Omar Pacha.

Marquardt, who formerly captained the Florida Everblades, will also double up as assistant coach.

Pacha was delighted to complete the signing of the goal-getter, commenting: “Matt is a big strong power forward that has a great scoring touch,” he said.

“He is a good team player and knows what it takes to win.

“We wanted to add size and strength to our line-up while getting a player that can be an offensive leader, it really is a massive signing for the club.

“He is a great club ambassador and I am convinced the fans will love him.

“In the first few weeks Matt will focus more on the ice as he will be an integral part of our team.

“However, as the season goes on he will have more responsibilities in the coaching aspect”.

Now heading into his third consecutive season in the Elite League and his first for a Scottish club, Marquardt said: “It is a very exciting organisation to be a part of right now.

“I am really excited to come in and share my experience with the guys in the club.

“I think it is a league that really accents my style well – it is a great league and it is getting better every year.

“It is nice to be a part of a team on the rise.”

The Ontario native has totalled 75 points in the past two seasons with Sheffield and Coventry Blaze, combining for 35 goals and 40 assists.
