We left Dundee 15 years ago to work in Australia and I believe that this can and will be a great attraction for the city. We came back to visit last year and having seen the V&A for ourselves, I was more than impressed.
“
I think it looks ugly, overpriced and a waste of money when children in our city are in poverty, homeless on the streets and a dying city centre with no stores.
“
The V&A is the best thing that has happened in my lifetime and I am 71. It is a massive transformer influence in the regeneration of the city. Congratulations to the people who had the vision to create and deliver this project. “
I have visited worldwide museums and galleries and the V&A is up there, potentially the best. Dundee is getting a world-class facility, no doubt about that.
“
If the V&A puts Dundee on the international map as the Guggenheim did for Bilbao, it will be worth every penny.
“
V&A London is successful as an attraction among many other attractions in that city but is not a destination in itself. V&A Dundee’s exhibitions will have to be of a quality and variety to attract repeat visits, to have a significant impact on the Dundee economy over the longer term.
“
Lots of negative comments from my older friends. I’m sure they will change their minds after they visit it. Really looking forward to the opening (I’m 87!).
“
I think it is an outstanding structure. I am from Dundee but have lived in Eire for 20 years and visit the city regularly, I can’t wait to visit the V&A!
“
More interaction with Dundee would have benefited the opening significantly. This is a hugely exciting project but will need local support to beat the drum, perhaps a few local exhibitions and ‘open days’ would work well.
“
It’s a fantastic opportunity for the city. Dundonians are creative and curious and proud to be “on the up” again. It’s an exciting time to have such a prestigious museum and will make the city an even more interesting place to visit.
