Motorist was slumped at wheel
A Crossgates man has been banned from driving after he was found slumped over the wheel of a van at an Asda supermarket.
Thomas Brockie, 42, of Hillview Place, admitted being unfit to drive due to drink or drugs when he appeared previously at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
He had been in charge of the van on December 19 at Asda, Halbeath Retail Park.
He also admitted he resisted, obstructed and hindered two police officers by shouting, swearing and struggling with them.
Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said police received a call at 11.40pm asking them to go to the supermarket car park because a man was slumped over the wheel of a Ford Transit van.
“They found him asleep in the driver’s seat,” she said.
“The passenger said he didn’t know what he had taken but that the accused was not drunk.”
When paramedics arrived they managed to wake him slightly, but he appeared to be intoxicated.
Brockie tested negative for alcohol but was slurring his speech and struggling to keep his eyes open.
Defence solicitor Alexander Flett said his client had taken Valium and did not have a “great recollection” of what happened.
Sheriff Alison McKay fined Brockie £450 and banned him from driving for a year.
