East Fife looking to complete derby double

- by Eric Nicolson

East Fife were victorious over one set of Fife neighbours in midweek and they can be victorious over another if they can defend corners properly at Raith Rovers today, their manager believes.

Darren Young’s side came from behind to win an Irn-Bru Cup tie 3-1 at Central Park in Cowdenbeath on Tuesday night and the Methil boss is looking to complete a derby double.

He said: “It was great to win a Fife derby ahead of playing in another Fife derby, however I was again disappointed that we lost a goal from a corner. We are still struggling to defend them and what makes it more disappointing is that we talked through everyone’s roles at training on Tuesday night.

“Everyone agreed that they knew who they were marking but then one of them switched off and we fell behind.

“Thankfully we recovered from it and credit to the players who did that.

“We spent part of Thursday going over corners again and hopefully that will pay dividends at Stark’s Park.”

Young added: “We are a team that can cause Raith problems if we attack them and that is what we will look to do.

“We cannot be silly about it all the same as they have good strikers in Kevin Nisbet, Chris Duggan and Liam Buchanan. Nathan Flannagan is there to supply them and we know how dangerous he can be however I want us to pose Raith problems.

“This is a big game for everyone and we will look to win the points.”

Mark Docherty, Scott Linton and Kevin Smith remain out injured.
