Snedeker slows down but still leads

Brandt Snedeker could not continue his first round fireworks but still goes into the weekend with the lead at the the Wyndham Championsh­ip in North Carolina.

The American carded the 10th sub-60 round in PGA Tour history with an 11 under par 59 on Thursday at Sedgefield Country Club to lead by four shots from countrymen Ryan Moore and John Oda.

CT Pan, of Chinese Taipei set the clubhouse target at 11 under with a 64 yesterday as Snedeker struggled to build on his opening round.

He reached the turn at one over for the day with three bogeys and two birdies but then climbed back into a share of the lead with Pan and fellow American DA Points with a birdie at the 11th.

Points then birdied the long 15th to go six under for the day and 12 under for the tournament but Snedker responded with an eagle three at the 15th and a birdie at the short 16th to go two ahead again.

Pars at the final two holes saw Snedeker shoot a 67 to take a twoshot lead over Points into the weekend. Points carded a second 64 after leaving a birdie putt on the last an inch short.

Canadian David Hearn and American pair Peter Malnati and Keith Mitchell were safely in at nine under.

Spain’s Sergio Garcia made a late charge with an eagle at 15 and a birdie at 16 to join them at that mark.

Moore and Oda both carded 70 to finish at seven under alongside Sweden’s Henrik Stenson, who shot a second round 65.
