Champion shearling ram sells for 2,100gn at St Boswells

- GEMMA MACKENZIE The 2,100gn sale topper, Harbell Lincoln from the Harbell flock.

A centre record was set when a shearling ram sold for 2,100gn at the Jacob Sheep Society’s official Scottish show and sale at St Boswells.

The sale topper was the male and supreme champion – March-2017 born Harbell Lincoln from MW Harper’s Harbell flock at Woodside Cottage, Cavers, Hawick. By Arkleside Dudley, he sold to Ewen MacMillan, Fintry, Glasgow.

Other leading prices for males included 700gn for January-born ram lamb Gowanbank Carter, by Fields Flash, from Mr and Mrs W Crowe, Heaughhead Farm, Friockheim, near Arbroath. He sold to Connor & Dalrymple, Linlithgow.

January-born ram lamb Hyndshaw Brooklyn, by Pentrenant Sammy, from Mrs H Baillie, Rowanbank, Yieldshiel­ds, Carluke, sold for 450gn to S Robertson, Dufftown, Keith.

In the female section a top of 1,400gn was paid for the female and reserve supreme champion. Consigned by S Harries of Wenant, Llandeilo, Carmarthen­shire, the January-born ewe lamb by Hope Rocky Boy sold to Ewen MacMillan.

Young Aberdeensh­ire breeder Adam Christie, who runs the Adamski flock at Glass, Huntly, bought three leading priced ewe lambs. These were a February-born Kinloch lamb, by Oakdean Dave, from M Munro, Kinloch, Ladybank, Fife, for 650gn; a Januarybor­n Kinloch lamb, by Kinloch Emlyn, for 600gn; and a February-born Kinloch lamb, also

480gn.

The averages were: shearling rams, four, £732.38; ram lambs, 12, £343.88; aged ram, one, £147; shearling ewes, 18, £301; ewe lambs, 23, £324.13; and aged ewes, two, £162.75. by Oakdean Dave, for
