A driver died following a horrific twovehicle crash in west Fife yesterday morning.

Emergency services were called to the B913 between Saline and Dollar at around 10am following a report of an accident involving a Land Rover Discovery and a grey Vauxhall Astra on the outskirts of the Fife village.

Paramedics battled to save the life of the person driving the Astra, but they were sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver is not thought to have been seriously injured.

The mangled wreckage of the Astra, which is believed to have ended up in a field, was removed from the site more than five hours after the accident, with the road closed for most of the day as collision investigators tried to figure out exactly what happened.

It is understood the Land Rover Discovery had been pulling a trailer when the accident occurred, while locals said the patch of road where the crash took place had recently been resurfaced.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police in Fife responded to the B913 road at the Saline Hotel at around 10am on Thursday August 30 following a report of a two vehicle collision.

“A Land Rover Discovery and a Vauxhall Astra were involved in the incident, resulting in the driver of the Astra sustaining fatal injuries. They were pronounced dead at the scene by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“Inquiries into the full circumstances of the collision are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to come forward.”

No further details have so far been released by police about the person’s identity, either their gender or age, as efforts by officers to trace next of kin were still said to be ongoing yesterday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said one appliance from Alloa had been called to assist, although it is understood firefighters were only on standby at the scene.

Meanwhile, an accident involving three cars partially blocked one of Kirkcaldy’s main arteries yesterday lunchtime.

Emergency services were in attendance at the crash at the junction of Hendry Road and Loanhead Place, where a car had overturned – trapping an elderly man inside.

He was taken to Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital, although his injuries were described as “minor” by police.

The accident was reported to the emergency services at around 1pm, and Hendry Road was closed in one direction for a time as the northbound carriageway had been blocked.
