Dancing man, 47, groped teenager at Steps concert
Offender and his husband ‘visibly under influence of alcohol’ before assault
A concert-goer sexually assaulted a teenager by groping him at the Steps gig in Dundee’s Slessor Gardens.
David Buick, 47, was attending the concert with his husband in June when the assault on the 16-year-old took place.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard Buick was accused of using homophobic language while speaking to the teenager, but his not guilty plea was accepted by the Crown.
Buick was placed on the sex offenders register and will be sentenced next month.
Depute fiscal Joanne Smith told the court the complainer had been attending the concert with his sister and other friends when the assault took place.
Buick and his husband were in the crowd dancing.
Both were said to have been “visibly under the influence of alcohol”.
The fiscal said the accused made a crude remark to the complainer about his husband and then asked a further obscene question.
The complainer said he was not gay and moved away from Buick.
Ms Smith said: “The complainer informed his sister what was said, but they decided just to ignore the accused.
“But the accused then repeated his earlier remark about his husband.
“The accused then moved behind the complainer, wrapped his arm around his stomach, over the clothing, and at that time the complainer moved the accused’s hands away from him.”
He made a further rude comment and the fiscal said the complainer then felt Buick grope him.
Ms Smith told the court: “At this point, one of the complainer’s friends saw what was happening and pulled the complainer away.”
His actions were reported to security staff.
Buick was then escorted from the crowd to speak to police officers.
He was arrested and subsequently charged.
Buick, of Glebe Crescent, in Alyth, admitted that on June 22 at Slessor Gardens, he sexually assaulted the victim.
Sheriff John Rafferty deferred sentence until September 25 for reports.
