£1m regeneration scheme to be extended across town centre
A £1 million upgrade of Leven’s Shorehead area is to be extended into another part of the town centre.
The regeneration project saw the resurfacing of several streets between Sainsbury’s and the Shorehead car park in a bid to provide better links into the town centre.
It also saw the car park turned into a flexible, multipurpose space capable of hosting civic events.
Although delays in the design phase and other issues led to problems with the budget, this has now been resolved meaning the area around the Kino Cinema will now undergo similar treatment.
Levenmouth community manager Dave Paterson said: “We are very happy with the completed works on the Shorehead in Leven.
“They have made a very positive improvement to the area. While there have been issues with the cost of the project, including the requirement for extra work which only became apparent as the contractors excavated the site, we had prepared for this and have negotiated an agreement for funds to be returned to the local budget.
“This will allow us to continue with the plans to upgrade the area around the Kino Cinema which I know will be welcomed by the local community.”
Fife Council co-leader David Alexander described the news as very positive for the town.
The SNP councillor for Leven said: “The performance area at the car park gives us an opportunity to do things in Leven we could not do in the past.
“And now we’ve been given another £400,000 to do up part of Commercial Road outside the Kino.”
