Travel writer’s first Scottish visit

-

A British journalist who has visited more than half of the world’s countries will be in Scotland for the first time when he speaks in Fife next week.

Intrepid travel writer Simon Parker will recount some of his many globe-trotting adventures for the Royal Scottish Geographical Society at an event in Dunfermline.

He will tell his fascinating stories of driving the length of India, reporting from the centre of the tempestuous Pacific Ocean and cycling and sailing 15,000 miles from China to London.

He said: “I’ve now been to over 100 countries and travelled to some of the most extreme corners of the planet, however, very embarrassingly, this will be my first trip to Scotland.

“This journey north of the border, however, comes at a time when I’m growing increasingly interested in exploring the UK. I plan to spend an extra day or two in the Scottish wilderness following my talks.”

Simon has worked for the BBC, The Daily Telegraph and The Independent and his first five-part television series Earth Cycle will be released later this year.

Mike Robinson, the society’s chief executive, said: “The reporting of adventure by journalists is important in inspiring people to travel more widely and communicate the many hidden stories that exist on the ground, especially in the many far-flung corners of the world that Simon has visited.”

Simon’s talk at Dunfermline High School next Wednesday will start at 7.30pm.

Tickets will be available on the door and online in advance at eventbrite.com
