Eustice to unveil his post-Brexit ‘to do’ list

Defra Minister George Eustice will outline the UK Government’s milk sector “to-do” list for post-Brexit Britain when he addresses the 2019 Semex Dairy Conference in Glasgow in January.

Heading an impressive line-up of speakers at the annual event, he will also give delegates his overview of the sector’s strengths and weaknesses as producers head into what the conference organisers describe as a “pivotal year of change” for the UK.

Further post-Brexit implicatio­ns will be tackled by English NFU president Minette Batters and Jukka Likitalo of the European Associatio­n of Dairy Trade, followed by internatio­nal trade presentati­ons from US speaker Sue McCloskey, who founded the Fairlife milk brand, and Charlie Perotti, Fonterra’s production director in China.

Conference delegates will also get to hear Ash Amirahmadi, managing director of Arla Foods UK; Chris Walkland, commentato­r and market analyst; Tom Levitt, Nuffield Scholar; Dr Giovanni Gnemmi of Bovinevet; Joe Wannop, Lancashire dairy farmer; Dr Michael Louhis, Semex Alliance; Will Evans, digital innovator; and Jeremy Higgins, US dairy herd manager.

Conference dates are January 13-15.

Meanwhile, next month’s Scottish Dairy Conference in Ayrshire, hosted by Mole Valley Farmers, will address the theme of “Fertility Challenges and Latest Solutions” and will have a strong line-up of internatio­nal speakers.
