Woman attacked at cash machine

-

A 36-year-old Lochgelly woman viciously attacked another female at a cash machine, a court has heard.

Cheryl Dryburgh, of South Street, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

She admitted that on May 31 at Lumphinnans Road, Lochgelly, she assaulted Tracey McLean by seizing her by the hair and pulling her to the pavement.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said: “At 11.50am the complainer had stopped to use a cash machine. She felt her hair being pulled from behind, causing her to fall to the ground.

“She was then repeatedly kicked to the head and body by the accused.

“Another person intervened and stopped the assault.”

The victim was taken to hospital with concussion and had two teeth loosened by the assault. After being detained by police, Dryburgh told them: “I wish I had done more to her.”

Defence solicitor Peter Robertson said: “The seriousness of the offence is not lost on her. There had been difficulties between her family and the complainer’s family and they are best kept apart.”

Sheriff Charles MacNair told Dryburgh: “This was a wholly unprovoked and vicious assault on somebody going about their normal daily business.”

He imposed a community payback order with two years’ supervision and 220 hours of unpaid work. Dryburgh was also ordered to pay the victim £750 in compensation.
