Golden nets pick of goals in Hill’s victory

-

Grove Menzieshill maintained second place behind Grange in the National first division with a convincing 5-0 win over Kelburne.

Menzieshill had the bulk of the possession throughout but Kelburne were dangerous on the breakaway, especially in the first half.

Luke Cranney opened the scoring and Aidan McQuade made it two before half-time with an excellent low flick at a penalty corner.

Kelburne came close to scoring on two breaks but a 2-0 scoreline was a fair reflection of play.

Olly James netted Menzieshill’s third within two minutes after the break and that effectively confirmed the victory.

Hill’s fourth, Cammy Golden’s fierce reverse shot from a narrow angle into the roof of the net, was the pick of the goals and Albert Rowling rounded off proceedings with the fifth from close range.

Western Wildcats also maintained their form with a 6-0 win over Hillhead to remain third.

Leaders Grange had a narrower-than-expected 1-0 win over Watsonians

Dundee Wanderers recorded their 10th straight victory, this time at home to Glasgow University.

The result was clinched before half-time when Wanderers led 4-1.

Bobby Ralph scored twice and there were also goals form Fergus Sandison and Rory Taylor in the first half and singles from Paul Dailly and Sean Dowie after the interval.

Dunfermline Carnegie are Wanderers’ nearest – and possibly only rivals – after a 5-2 win at Falkirk.

Perthshire had a remarkable 9-2 win over Aberdeen Grammar.

Hat-tricks for Mike Robertson and Stephen Dick were most influential but Adam Czub scored twice and Lewis Brydon once in a resounding win.

The Perth club have been high scorers throughout the season but this time kept the goals conceded down.

Perthshire are still seventh in division 2, only two points behind the Aberdeen side with a game in hand.
