Immersed in ‘mob culture’ as offer was too good to refuse

- Lucy Penman

Aterrible thing has happened to me and Mr P since The Student left for uni, leaving us entirely unsupervised. We have become immersed in mob culture.

It started with the desperation we’ve all felt on realising we had no go-to series to fill the gaps when the telly’s a bit ropey in the summer.

We tried thinking back to anything we may have missed in the past that we could now catch up on, thanks to the whole catch-up option.

We realised neither of us had watched the Sopranos when it was on.

We then realised it was aired the same year we had The Baby, so that might have been why.

There was an offer on one of the new-fangled platforms where we could download the first few episodes free, and so we did.

Please help. Having started with good intentions – we’ll see what it’s like, then decide whether to download any more – we’re now too far gone to be able to stop. And we have to pay a fortune for the subsequent episodes.

To be fair, getting into trouble over payments is something we’re learning seems to be an everyday occurence in the murky world of the Sopranos.

When I say mob culture, I mean mainly soft furnishings and recipe ideas; the violence and political incorrectness form a backdrop to the main event as far as I’m concerned.

Mr P has been scarfing down the pasta dishes I’m now serving up on a regular basis (although thankfully he has not gone the full Tony Soprano and started wearing a vest at the table) and I’ve been awake worrying about the exam results of the Soprano children.

At the weekend we had a double dose of mob culture as Goodfellas happened to be on real telly. Rather than shock and disgust at the antics of the gangsters, I found myself comparing the eighties ruffled furnishings in the bedroom with those of the Sopranos and having a subsequent dream about chintz.

We need help – what’s the name of Tony’s therapist?
