‘Happy’ Nisbet only too glad to sign extension

-

Raith Rovers striker Kevin Nisbet insists he is determined to ensure the backward step he took in dropping to League One in the summer is the only one he takes in football after finally getting his career off and running.

The 21-year-old has certainly not been slow in coming forward when finding the net this season.

His goal in the Scottish Cup against Queen’s Park last weekend was the youngster’s 18th in just 21 games in a remarkable opening to the campaign.

The stunning form was rewarded this week with a one-year contract extension and he admits he is so happy at Stark’s Park he had no hesitation in putting pen to paper.

However, he also has no intention on resting on his laurels as he chases the dream of promotion to the Championship this term.

When he was released by Partick on relegation from the Premiership at the end of last season, Nisbet opted to drop down to the third tier and he is desperate to prove he made the right decision in kickstarting his football life in Fife.

He said: “It was good to get the contract signed this week. I’ve been playing well, I’m happy here, I’m settled and I’m wanted as well, which is the main thing.

“Scoring goals is proof that I’m happy. I’m playing in a team where my teammates are creating chances and I’m just there to put them away.”

Full-time Raith were most people’s tips for the title at the start of the campaign but they host Airdrie this afternoon a massive 10 points adrift of Arbroath.

And Nisbet admits the Stark’s Park outfit cannot let the leaders get any further ahead.

He said: “We just need to focus on ourselves and win and if they slip up, we just need to take our chance and close that gap.

“But we can’t afford any more mistakes if we are going to catch them.”
