Leaders still not hit top gear, says Rennie

-

Dave Rennie believes his table-topping Glasgow side have more still to give.

Warriors lead the way in Conference A having claimed victories in seven of their nine Guinness PRO14 games so far.

But head coach Rennie is not satisfied and reckons his side have yet to hit top gear.

Now he warned his squad he expects to see further improvements when they host the Scarlets at Scotstoun tonight.

Rennie said: “Winning is a habit and you want to keep doing that. Ultimately it is about performance, when I look back a few weeks ago we got beat by Munster but we played really well that night.

“We don’t like losing. It is all about the quality of how we play and we know if we can perform with that intensity and accuracy, we are going to win more than we lose.

“We have been going pretty well recently and know we have more in us, I want to see more of that tomorrow night.”

Rennie’s team selection will see Nick Grigg register his 50th Glasgow appearance against the Welsh region.

Grigg made his Warriors debut in March 2016 and has gone on to become a Scotland international through his impressive performances in a Warriors jersey.

He is joined in midfield by Stafford McDowall while George Horne returns to the starting XV to start alongside stand-off Brandon Thomson.

Niko Matawalu has scored five tries in his last two games and starts again on the wing, Robbie Nairn is brought in to make his first start alongside Ruaridh Jackson in the back-three.

Alex Allan returns from Scotland camp to start at loose-head, with George Turner and D’Arcy Rae completing the front-row.

Lock Tim Swinson starts having returned from injury off the bench last week and Scott Cummings is his partner in the engine room.

Flanker Chris Fusaro will captain the side from the outset for the first time since January 2014, while Matt Smith and Adam Ashe are also named in the back-row.

In last night’s other Pro14 clash, Ospreys strolled to a 43-0 victory over Zebre.

The home side led 15-0 at half-time through a penalty try, a Luke Morgan try and a penalty by Sam Davies.

They ran riot in the second half with Morgan scoring his second try of the evening and Davies adding the extra points.

Morgan completed his hat-trick with Davies again obliging with the extras.

Ospreys bagged their fifth with a huge pushover seeing Scott Otten score, with James Hook adding the conversion to make it 36-0.

Olly Cracknell then broke through to score, with Hook again adding the extra points to complete the scoring.
