Festive angels appeal for volunteers and donations for community effort
Organisers at Brechin Community Pantry are appealing for donations of festive food, as well as people to volunteer some time to assist with a Christmas day meal for people who might otherwise be alone.
A spokesperson from the organisation said: “Unfortunately, the people who organised the previous Christmas lunches were unable to do it this year, and it’s all a bit frantic as this is a service in our community that is now a vital link.
“We have no funding for this year, so we are issuing an appeal to all local businesses who are willing to contribute to the meal, and for volunteers to help out on the day, just for a few hours.
“It would also be great if a caterer came forward to rally our helpers.”
The Mechanics Institute has provided the venue and the high school minibus is being used for transport.
“The dinner is for people of all ages, gender and abilities that are alone at Christmas or have very little.
“We are operating a referral system as we can only cater for so many people, so we are reaching out to as many organisations, groups and individuals within the area as possible.
“Any donations will be greatly appreciated as what we don’t use on the day will be sent home with the diners, or donated to the Brechin Pantry,” said the spokesperson.
Anyone who would like to help by donating their time or food is asked to call 01356 308639 or email brechincommunitypantry5@gmail.com
