Award for wind turbine project
A community wind turbine project has won a renewables prize.
Ore Valley Housing Association is celebrating its success in the Scottish Renewables Green Energy Awards after its initiative was named the best community project.
The scheme, based south of Cardenden, allows local people to benefit from a large-scale renewable project where the profits are ploughed into a community fund.
Chief executive Andrew Saunders said: “We are delighted that this project has been recognised in the Scottish Green Energy Awards.
“With the project now delivering on its aspirations to derive a financial benefit for the local community, this award is validation of the years of effort and commitment it has taken to reach this stage.”
The turbine produces 1,800 megawatts of green electricity every year for export to the grid.
This is enough power for 360 Fife homes and saves 313 tonnes of carbon emissions a year.
Formed in 1991, Ore Valley Housing Association provides 670 affordable homes in central Fife, along with six retail units in Lochgelly.
It also operates several subsidiaries.
The Scottish Renewables Green Energy Awards is the main event of the year for the Scottish renewables industry, showcasing the best projects.
