Imrie hopes history can repeat itself for Hamilton

Dougie Imrie is hoping for a repeat of history when Hamilton visit Ibros tomorrow.

Accies’ 2-0 win over the Light Blues at Ibrox more than a year ago was their first league victory in Govan since 1926.

With Hamilton sitting third from bottom of the table, four points ahead of Dundee and St Mirren, the Accies attacker would like nothing more than another shock result.

The 35-year-old said: “It would be good because we need the points.

“We were excellent there last season all over the park and we were very unlucky here this season.

“I know the game finished 4-1 but that wasn’t a true reflection of the game. We matched them for 81 minutes and the game changed when they got the penalty which wasn’t a penalty.

“But if we can emulate the performance at their place last season and the 81 minutes against them here we have a right good chance of getting something from the game.

“We kept it 0-0 to half-time, came out in the second half and got a goal after six minutes and straight away the fans were on top of them because they are expecting to win and then we got them on a counter-attack and won the game 2-0.

“You have to ride your luck in those games as well. They had some unbelievable chances that they didn’t take.

“That’s how you win games. You have to take your chances when they come along.”

Boss Martin Canning expects to have Gary Woods back fully fit with fellow goalkeeper Jan Mucha in with a chance of the trip to Ibrox after both were injured in last week’s home defeat to Hibernian.
