Fifers boss Young orders players to cut out mistakes

East Fife head to Stenhousemuir looking for a first League One win in four games

And manager Darren Young has warned his men that the Warriors will take full advantage of any slip-ups.

He said: “Stenhousemuir will have taken a lift from beating Brechin last weekend. They also showed a lot of character to defeat Falkirk in the Scottish Cup recently, so we were in for a tough game if we do not do the right things.”

His own side’s surrender of a threegoal lead and subsequent 3-3 home draw with Stranraer last weekend still irks Young.

He said: “We have to manage games correctly and we have to ensure that we cut mistakes out of our game and we need to start doing so now. Mistakes all over the pitch cost us a win last Saturday and not just in defence where we made mistakes at every goal we conceded.

“We also had chances at 3-1, 3-2 and 3-3 and never took them so we cannot just say that it was an off day in defence. The game should have been won but it was only drawn, and it felt like a defeat.”

Young is however mindful not to paint too bleak a picture.

He explained: “What makes it all the more annoying was that we scored good goals, good well-worked goals that we worked hard at, however we gave away cheap ones. We need to become a harder team to score against and I am looking to freshen the team up to help us do that.

“It has been a frustrating run recently but when you stand back at look at the bigger picture, we are having a decent season. We are in third place, and in the quarter-finals of the Irn-Bru Cup, but we could be having an even better season if we improve our game management.”

Daryll Meggatt is banned after being sent off against Stranraer, with Chris Kane still out.
