SQUASH

AITKEN REACHES LAST FOUR Montrose squash player Lisa Aitken battled the home crowd and an inspired opponent as she reached the semi-finals of the Italian International in Riccione yesterday. The number one seed is world-ranked 229 places ahead of Italian wild card Monica Menegozzi, but Menegozzi had stunned seventh seed Riina Koskinen on Thursday and the local fans lifted her again yesterday. Aitken needed to fight hard to go through 11-8 11-6 11-6, and she will now face either Dutchwoman Tessa ter Sluis or Brighton’s Jasmine Hutton in today’s semifinals as she continues to chase her first PSA title since the Bangor Classic in June.
