Series of shed raids prompts security warning from police

Police are investigating a spate of break-ins to garden sheds in the Ballingry and Cardenden areas.

Officers have received reports of damage to four garden sheds in the Southfield Avenue area of Ballingry, as well as a further break-in to a shed in the Muirtonhill Road area of Cardenden.

Various items including power tools, garden equipment and bikes have been stolen.

Detective Sergeant Kieran Marsh from Dunfermline CID said: “Over the last few days we have received reports of break-ins to garden sheds in the Ballingry and Cardenden areas of Fife and I would like to remind people to remain vigilant about acquisitive crime.

“I would urge all homeowners to ensure that their valuable property is kept locked away and secured when not being used.”

DS Marsh said tackling thefts was a priority for police in Fife.

“Day-in day-out we target resources to prevent such crimes from happening in the first place,” he said.

“No matter where you live, no one can be complacent so please ensure your homes, garages and sheds are always secure and that your vehicles are locked.

“We have dedicated a number of CID officers to investigating this series of crimes and we are following a number of lines of inquiry.
