Teenager who carried out armed carjacking allowed to walk free

A motorbike mechanic who carried out an armed carjacking with a 10-year-old boy has been allowed to walk free from court.

Charles Lindsay, 19, pulled a knife on a sleeping wind farm worker in the dead of night and drove off for a joyride with the primary school pupil.

Yesterday, at Perth Sheriff Court, Lindsay was told he had come close to being locked up but was being given a chance to turn his life around.

Sheriff Gillian Wade placed him on the Right Track project for young offenders and deferred sentence until April.

The court heard how the child and Lindsay burst into the man’s car and pulled a knife out before stealing the vehicle.

Car owner Rhys Williams, 23, who had been tired after driving from Wales to Scotland to return to work, was left dumped at the roadside without his shoes.

The court was told he had fled from the car after seeing the knife and hearing the boy shout: “Get out of the car!”

Lindsay was caught after dumping the car near his mother’s home and leaving his DNA on the steering wheel.

Mr Williams’ stolen Armani tracksuit was found during a search of Lindsay’s home.

Lindsay, of Logie Drive, Logiealmond, had previously admitted assaulting and robbing Mr Williams at knifepoint on October 13.

He admitted acting with another unknown male in a layby on the A926 Blairgowrie to Alyth road in Perthshire by entering the Seat Ibiza and demanding property from Mr Williams.

Lindsay admitted presenting a knife, ordering Mr Williams to leave the vehicle before driving it away and stealing the car and its contents.
