A fundraising appeal has been set up to help cover the funeral costs of a Fife man who was found dead just days before Christmas.

The body of John-Paul Hughson was discovered lying in a communal courtyard area of Adam Smith Court in Kirkcaldy on December 23.

The 24-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene having suffered various injuries.

A police probe into the circumstances is continuing and his death is still being treated as “unexplained”.

Scene of crime officers scoured the secluded courtyard for clues under a heavy police guard for a number of days.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Mr Hughson’s devastated family, who say they are still struggling to come to terms with his sudden death.

A post on the page explains that he died tragically in circumstances which are still unexplained on December 23 and that the investigation is ongoing.

It says any money donated will go towards the bill for arranging Mr Hughson’s funeral, since the cost was unexpected and the timing particularly difficult due to it being so close to Christmas and New Year.

Urging Mr Hughson’s many friends to donate whatever they can afford, the post concludes: “It is a very horrible feeling having to bury your child but even worse when you can’t afford to.

“Please, any donation would help. Let’s give John-Paul the send-off he deserves.”

A police spokesperson said: “Police in Fife are investigating after a man was found injured in the street at Adam Smith Court, Kirkcaldy, at around 9.40am on Sunday December 23.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene and the death is currently being treated as unexplained.

“Inquiries are ongoing.”
