Blue Brazil move ahead after goals blitz at Elgin City

-

Cowdenbeath boss Gary Bollan was understandably full of praise for his team following a resounding 4-1 victory over Elgin City in Moray.

The Blue Brazil’s second successive win lifts them above the Highland outfit on goal difference and just three points behind fourth-placed Annan.

“Borough Briggs is always a hard place to come but we had a game plan and the players executed it perfectly,” said Bollan.

“I am delighted with the way we played and every one of them deserves credit for their performance,” said the Blue

Brazil boss.

Both teams could have been excused for having one eye on their upcoming Scottish Cup clashes with Premiership opposition but, while City seemed unwilling to risk injury, the Beath boys gave their all – to the delight of their manager

“They had to go out and prove that they deserved to play on Friday (v Rangers).

“To score four goals away is excellent and, although I was disappointed with the one we lost, overall I am very happy with the boys.”

Cowdenbeath kept things tight at the back early on, and a long probing ball out of defence saw Jordan Allan scamper through to earn a corner.

An alteration to the set-piece routine culminated in a cross being flicked on to David Cox and he slammed it high into the corner of the net from close range.

There was an element of fortune about Kris Renton’s goal in the 39th minute when his long-range strike skipped off the turf past Kyle Gourlay, who should have done better.

It was 3-0 just 20 seconds into the second half when Jordan Allan was given time to control the ball, turn and place a right -foot shot into the corner of the net from 16 yards.

Elgin pulled a goal back, but minutes later Kyle Miller pounced on a poor clearance by JP McGovern to feed a wonderful first-time ball through to man-of-the-match Allan who finished with aplomb.
