Could Saturday prove to bea pivotal point in the Championship campaign?

As the clock ticked down at Tannadice, it seemed Dundee United were in danger of missing out on a glorious opportunity to make up ground at the top.

At the time, league leaders Ross County were being thumped by Queen of the South while second top Ayr were losing at Inverness.

However, the Tangerines had struggled all afternoon against the Pars and the grim game looked increasingly likely to end in a stalemate

– a result neither side wanted.

Instead, United supersub Nicky Clark popped up late on to become the goal hero for the home side against his former team.

The result now leaves Robbie Neilson’s side level with the Honest Men on points and just three behind Ross County.

The stuttering Staggies and Ayr have now both lost their last two games and United will be hoping they can capitalise again if the slump continues.

It is Scottish Cup business next week but after that Neilson’s men travel to Somerset Park, no doubt hell bent on seeking for revenge for the 5-0 hammering the last time the two sides met.

More importantly, they have to go down there and make sure the Pars result was not yet another false dawn.

As for Dunfermline, considering all the turmoil they had gone through last week changing manager, they can consider themselves unlucky not to have taken at least a share of the spoils from Saturday’s contest.
