Arrest warrant issued for ex-Dundee United defender Bilel Mohsni

Current whereabouts of 31-year-old Tunisian not known after he fails to appear before sheriff on charges of dangerous driving

An arrest warrant has been issued for former Dundee United defender Bilel Mohsni after he was charged with dangerous driving.

Mohsni, who also played for Rangers, was due to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court yesterday.

The 31-year-old did not turn up, prompting the Crown to seek an arrest warrant as his current whereabouts are unknown.

It is alleged Mohsni overtook several vehicles unsafely on the A914 in northeast Fife on April 8 last year.

The charge claims he had to take evasive action to avoid crashing into an oncoming car by veering on to the opposite side of the road between Forgan roundabout and St Michaels.

He is accused of crossing a double solid white line when repeatedly overtaking a number of vehicles when it was unsafe to do so.

The French-born Tunisian, who has also played for Tunisia’s national team, was on a short-term contract with Dundee United when the alleged offence took place.

His address was previously given to the court as being on Mortimer Drive in Monifieth.

Depute fiscal Catherine Fraser explained court papers had been returned to them, stating that he no longer lived there.

She said: “His present whereabouts are unknown. The complaint was sent to the accused’s address at the time of the offence.

“He is obviously aware there is a case ongoing. The complaint came back as not known at this address.”

Sheriff James MacDonald granted the request for a warrant.

Mohsni moved from France to the UK in 2010 and signed for Southend United.

He struck a two-year deal with Rangers in 2013 and played 28 league matches for the Ibrox side.

He achieved on-field infamy when he punched Motherwell player Lee Erwin at the end of a Championship play-off tie which saw the Ibrox side consigned to the second tier of Scottish football. He was handed a seven-match ban.

He returned to France before joining Dundee United for their ultimately unsuccessful tilt at the 2018 Championship title.

Csaba Laszlo had hoped to resign him after his short stint at Tannadice but Mohsni decided to take up an offer with a Turkish premier league club.
