Boss’s delight as wing man joins up at Stark’s

-

Raith Rovers manager John McGlynn is hoping for big things from new signing Craig McGuffie after snapping up the winger on loan from Ayr United.

The 21-year-old has joined Rovers for the rest of the season following the departure of Daniel Armstrong earlier this week.

Raith have also announced the exit of midfielder Lewis Milne, who has returned to Montrose after moving to Stark’s Park from the Angus outfit last summer.

And McGlynn is delighted to have strengthened his attacking options again after adding McGuffie to Nathan Flanagan and recent recruit Tony Dingwall on the flanks.

He said: “With Lewis Milne leaving, we have brought in Craig McGuffie.

“I’ve said all along I wanted three wide players for two positions. We play with two wingers but I wanted three and we now have that.

“Looking at him in training, I think he’ll do very well for us.

“Lewis has left and gone to Montrose. He wanted to play and had a couple of chats with myself, and I couldn’t guarantee him regular game-time.

“So, he wanted to move on and I’m sure he’ll go to Montrose and do well. It just didn’t work out for him here.”

In a busy week for McGlynn and his squad, Rovers have also confirmed the retention of Livingston defender Callum Crane on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

The former Hibs leftback joined the Kirkcaldy club in September and, after recovering from a knee injury sustained in November, has returned to the starting line-up in recent weeks.

McGlynn added: “Keeping Callum Crane is also a good bit of business. We were always hopeful that was going to happen.

“He came in at the same time as myself and did exceptionally well. He picked up an injury but he’s got himself back into the team now and I’m delighted to secure him until the end of the season.”
