Weir urges players to keep up momentum

-

Four points away from home against the two top teams in League One has given Forfar’s play-off push considerable momentum.

But it would be shortlived momentum if the Loons slip up at home to Airdrie this afternoon.

“I think everybody would look at Arbroath and Forfar as the two toughest away games,” said Weir.

“To get four points from them is a bonus.

“But to really make them count we need to beat Airdrie.

“The head to heads between teams going for the play-offs matter more when you get to this stage of the season. They are six-pointers.

“This is a chance to open up a ninepoint gap on Airdrie, who are one of the challengers.

“With Raith and East Fife both playing in the cup, we also have the opportunity to go joint second, which is another incentive.”

Weir confirmed recent signing Gary Irvine is in contention to start the match.

Weir said: “He trained well both nights this week. Gary has kept himself fit and has done a bit of full-time training at Dundee.

“He might not be fully match sharp but his experience will get him through games. He could play in defence or right across the middle of the park.”

Player availability is healthier than it has ever been for Weir, with the only absentee being Brad Spencer, who is suspended.
