Kings bid to keep pressure on
Dunfermline Reign should take a step closer to their first Scottish National League title when they host lowly ~Edinburgh Lions at St Columba’s HS.
But the Fifers will need a big favour from Glasgow University if they are to clinch the crown today as City of Edinburgh Kings are still, technically at least, in the hunt.
Kings travel to Glasgow wary of the fate that befell Boroughmuir Blaze there recently when GU won 68-64 against the odds.
A win for Kings, the only team who can match Reign, will only extend the title contest until Tuesday, when Reign play another bottom three team Stirling Knights.
Reign playmaker Craig Ferguson and his clubmate Bruce Taylor, who conspired to take Edinburgh University B team to an upset win over GU in the British Universities Trophy match on Wednesday, may wish they had not dented their West rivals confidence now they need some help.
But the crowning ceremony should surely only be delayed.
Trials for the SSS team are due to be held at St Columba’s tomorrow but coach Danny Costello will not be there as he had emergency surgery this week after suffering a heart attack.
Apart from Ferguson and Taylor, two more Reign players, Jake Sirrell and Lauritz Juffer, are in line for selection for games against Irish Colleges at St Andrews University in April.
