Refurbishment proposals for closed village pub abandoned
Plans to breathe new life into a village pub which has been shut for a year have been abandoned.
A potential licensee lodged an application to refurbish the Cedar Inn in Aberdour but the proposal has now been withdrawn.
The plans involved building an extension where there is currently outside seating on Shore Road and installing new windows and doors.
Owned by Star Pubs and Bars, a subsidiary of Dutch brewing giant Heineken, The Cedar is now looking for a new licensee.
A spokesperson from Star Pubs and Bars said: “The Cedar Inn Aberdour is a great business opportunity for the right operator who has the vision and relevant experience to create an outstanding pub for the area, serving great food and drink as well as offering nine accommodation rooms.
“Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control, refurbishment plans by a potential licensee are no longer going ahead.
“However, it remains our aim to reopen the Cedar Inn as soon as we’ve found the right licensee for it.”
The Cedar Inn closed a year ago after repeated attempts to sustain the business fell through.
It had closed twice before in recent years.
After it closed last year, Fife Licensed Trade Association called for an end to “unfair” rates on pubs and hotels.
Association secretary Tom Johnston said the demise of the popular village drinking spot was part of a “depressing trend”.
