Burnett set for triples final

-

Arbroath bowler Darren Burnett and his team-mates Ronnie Duncan and Derek Oliver will contest today’s triples final at the Atlantic Rim Championships following a nail-biting extra-end victory over old rivals England in Cardiff yesterday.

The Commonwealth Games champions had won nine group games out of 10 and looked set for the final when they led by six shots with just two ends left.

An English four made things interesting and skipper Burnett needed to remove a bowl with his last shot to take the semi-final to a 19th end.

The Scots regained their composure to scrape through 15-14, and they will now meet South Africa in this morning’s final after they defeated Namibia in the other semi.

“It was a great game and it’s another final for our triple, but we nearly blew it at the end,” admitted Burnett.

“It would have been a tough one to lose, but we played some great bowls to keep us in it.”
