Molinari’s mixed emotions about missing out on another title

-

Francesco Molinari admitted he has mixed emotions about missing out on a second major title following his battle with Tiger Woods at the Masters.

Molinari took a two-shot lead into the final round and was still two ahead with seven holes to play, only to hit his tee shot on the 12th into Rae’s Creek to run up a double bogey.

The Open champion responded with a birdie at the next and was part of a fiveway tie for the lead until he again found the water with his approach to the 15th and eventually had to settle for a share of fifth place.

“I wasn’t satisfied, I wasn’t satisfied at all,” Molinari said ahead of the 101st US PGA Championship. “But I was happy the way I fought on Sunday and the way I played because really it was the first time that I was leading in a major.”

Meanwhile United States Ryder Cup captain Steve Stricker has no intention of following opposite number Padraig Harrington and changing his number of wild cards, sticking with four.

Harrington has opted to reduce the number of wild cards at his disposal from four to three for next year’s contest at Whistling Straits in Stricker’s home state of Wisconsin.
