Barrie Douglas event at Strathmore

-

The second Blackadders-backed Barrie Douglas Foundation Scottish Junior Masters tees-up at the Strathmore Golf Centre from May 31 to June 2.

Last year, the inaugural U18 trophy was captured by Airdrie’s Greg Dalziel, who edged out Jack Broun from Belleisle in the final.

And in the U16 category, Blairgowrie Golf Club duo, champion Gregor Graham and third-placed Cormac Sharpe, impressed on home territory, sandwiching Nairn’s Calum Scott, who lost out to Graham in a tense play-off.

Scots pros Bradley Neil and Stephen Gallacher were both present and messages of support came in from Connor Syme and Richie Ramsay.

Scottish U18 squad players Gregor and Cormac will be eyeing-up a challenge for the honours at Strathmore.

“The Blackadders Barrie Douglas Foundation Scottish Junior Masters was so much fun last year,” said Gregor, 15.

“The organisation of the event, from the way it was run to the volunteers, goody bags, meal vouchers and live scoring, was first class and great to be part of.

“Even having scoreboards going out with the last groups on the final day was pretty special. It felt very much like a professional tournament.

“To win my first national event, on my home course with friends and family looking on, was the icing on the cake.”

●The Foundation was created in honour of long-time servant to Scottish Golf and R&A selector Barrie Douglas, who passed away last year after taking ill while captaining the Scottish boys at the European Team Championships in Spain.
