Fed thrash Kennoway to set up second final

-

Broughty Athletic trounced an under-strength Kennoway Star Hearts 9-1 at Craigie Park to set up a local derby in the final of the D J Laing East Region Cup next weekend.

The visitors were missing a number of players through holiday and absence but still shocked Broughty when Lee Bryce scored on 19 minutes.

However, they led for just 60 seconds before Josh Skelly levelled.

Dundee United loanee Louis Appere put Broughty in front on 32 minutes and Gregor Anderson sent the Fed in at half-time in control with a third just before the break.

Skelly added his second, and Broughty’s fourth, 10 minutes into the second half and then, with 20 minutes left, completed his hat-trick to make it 5-1.

John Roberts scored number six on 77 minutes and Appere grabbed his second, and his side’s seventh, just two minutes later. There was still time for Skelly to score twice more, on 84 and 89 minutes, to complete the rout against Kennoway who, had they been able to choose from their full squad, would have put up a sterner test for Jamie McCunnie’s side.

Broughty, who already have the Signature Signs Cup in the trophy cabinet, will now face Carnoustie Panmure in the final next Saturday at Thomson Park.

North End will have the chance to add the Consolation Cup to their Premier League North triumph after beating Forfar West End 3-1 at Strathmore Park.

Liam McCartney gave Ross Lunan’s side the lead after 17 minutes but Craig Batchelor equalised for West End five minutes later.

Kevin Milne hit what proved to be the winning goals when he netted twice in six minutes just before half-time. West End had assistant manager Graeme Hart ordered from the dugout as their day got worse in the second half.

North End will face Super League side Whitburn in the final after they thrashed Glenrothes at Central Park. In what proved to be Glenrothes’ final game as a Junior club, the Lothian side totally outclassed their visitors, hammering the Fife men 8-1.

Martin Russell put Whitburn in front on 14 minutes and Darren Liddell scored twice, on 18 and 28 minutes, for the home side to lead 3-0 at the break. Gary Brass made it 4-0 on the hour before Liddell completed his hat-trick on 72 and added a fourth three minutes later.

Veteran striker John Martin scored a consolation for Glens 10 minutes later before Andy McQuillan and Reece Duncan completed the demolition. Results
