FULL SET FOR HEDLEY

Fife AC’s Anna Hedley made it a complete set of honours over country, hill and track in winning the Scottish U17 women’s 3,000m track title at Scotstoun Stadium, Glasgow. Hedley clocked a personal best nine minutes 45.50 seconds, placing fifth/ first female in the Mixed ‘E’ race won by Fife U20 colleague Craig Morris – 9:29.33.

Hedley’s time shaved six seconds from her personal best set at the same British Milers Club meeting last year, and her new mark tops the 2019 UK rankings.

Hedley said: “I was pleased, considering the wet and windy conditions. “I haven’t set any other track targets this summer, I just want to see how training goes and keep enjoying it”. MINI TOUR OF FIFE

The fifth and final Mini Tour of Fife race saw 143 junior athletes complete all five races in the series, finishing with blustery conditions at Kingsbarns beach.

Over the U11s/U9s one-mile course John Barr (St Columba’s, Cupar) led home the field of 88 runners outsprinting Beinn Anderson (East Fife Tri.) over the final 40m run-in. It was, however, Strathkinness athlete Anderson that claimed the overall age group title on aggregate time for all five races, courtesy of a commanding win at the East Lomond last Tuesday.

The closest finale came in the U9 boys’ category where Oscar Burgess (Anster Haddies) had the fastest sprint finish, one second ahead of Fraser Armstrong (Letham Primary School). Ironically it was Armstrong who took the overall title with a week’s total of 44 minutes 36 seconds to Burgess’ 44.37 – a one second advantage!

The female junior U11 title went to Tegan Young (Fife AC), while Olivia Johnson (Unatt.) was a runaway winner of the U9s title.

In the three-mile races through Cambo Estate and Kingsbarns beach, U13 and U15 girls’ Fife duo Isla Thoms and Isla Hedley finished the week unbeaten in their respective age groups, while Anstruther athlete Archie Suttie (Fife AC) prevailed in the U13 boys’ category. Strathkinness athlete Guillem Penacchio (Fife AC) completed the week having carved out a six-minute advantage in the U15 boys’ age group, while Libby Smith (Fife AC) was unchallenged in the U18 girls’ category. Cupar’s Michael Sanderson (Fife AC), who shared a winning time in the first race of the week with Dunfermline athlete Andrew Thomson (PH Racing), got stronger and stronger over the remaining four events taking the U18 boys’ title, completing the week with a two minutes, 51 seconds advantage.
