Resurfaced road will let vintage vehicles roll into annual rally

-

Visitors to the Leven Vintage Car rally next weekend will find it easier to access the site thanks to a £2,500 Fife Council investment.

The money was allocated by members of Levenmouth area committee to allow the access road to be resurfaced.

Hundreds of people are expected to visit the rally at Kirkland railway yard in Burnmill Road on June 30.

The annual extravaganza, hosted by the Kingdom of Fife Railway Preservation Society, is now in its sixth decade and will include more than 100 classic cars and exhibits.

SNP councillor Ken Caldwell, convener of the area committee, said the road improvements were part of a wider strategy to increase tourism in Levenmouth.

“This upgrade to the access road to the vintage railway site will make it much easier for members of the public to get access to the many events that take place here,” he said.

“Throughout Levenmouth we are taking steps to improve the community for residents and visitors.

“We want Levenmouth to be a place where tourists will come and spend some time, rather than drive past on their way to other tourist attractions.”

Mr Caldwell said Levenmouth had a lot to offer.

“The communities are playing their part in organising events and we, as local representatives, are playing our part in supporting them and making it as easy as possible for groups to put on events.”

This year’s vintage rally, from 11am to 4pm will include cars, motorbikes and tractors.

Steam trains will run all day and there will be a miniature railway plus a chance to drive a diesel locomotive.
